Honouring Nancy Cummings Gold - A Champion of Change

At the event, we will proudly recognize Nancy Cummings Gold for her extraordinary dedication to Auberge Shalom.

Nancy’s commitment as a board member, volunteer, and advocate has transformed countless lives and inspired many to support our mission. Her leadership has strengthened our programs, deepened our impact, and brought us to this milestone.

Together, let’s honour Nancy’s contributions and celebrate the spirit of chai—36 years of life-changing work.

THE CURRENT REALITY

Intimate partner violence (IPV) remains a pressing issue.

Globally, more than 1 in 4 women experience intimate partner abuse in their lifetime. In Canada, approximately 45% of teens (aged 15-17) experience dating violence including emotion, sexual and physical abuse. In Quebec alone, 13 tragic femicides linked to domestic abuse were reported in 2024.

These devastating statistics underscore the urgent need for comprehensive support, prevention, and education around IPV and healthy relationships.

Keynote Speaker - Amy Kaufman

Amy Kaufman’s resilience and advocacy in the face of adversity are well-known. Having survived intimate partner violence, she has turned her personal tragedy into a powerful platform for change and support. Utilizing her experiences, she has become a vocal advocate for intimate partner violence awareness, working to educate communities, support survivors, and influence policy change.

We are incredibly grateful that Amy will be sharing her voice at our 36 Years of Hope event.

36 Years of Hope Campaign

For over three decades, Auberge Shalom pour femmes has been a lifeline for survivors, offering specialized services to over 12,000 women and children impacted by IPV.

This year, as we celebrate our double chai anniversary, we have launched an ambitious campaign to honour our 36 years of service.

This milestone campaign will help us:

  • Enhance survivor services to meet the growing demand for shelter, counseling, and support.

  • Expand violence prevention programs, empowering individuals and communities to break the cycle of violence before it begins.

  • Raise awareness about IPV and healthy relationships, fostering a culture of empathy, respect, and safety.

As a Jewish woman who had recently moved to Montreal, Auberge Shalom represented a place to access help that felt less foreign than other organizations. Never in a million years would I imagine that I would ever need help from such an agency, but one day it all became clear to me I was that woman. Leaving my situation would have never been possible without the support and guidance from Auberge Shalom. One of the most empowering ways that they provided assistance was through their support groups. Their support groups offered a space to identify, share, and process what had happened to me. They made me feel less alone in my situation. They offered me insight and tools to better manage, and they helped pave a path towards a foreseeable future. I will always be forever grateful.

“I was so broken and thought so little of myself that I would say to myself “no wonder he hit me.” Auberge Shalom services helped me to realize that I am loved and valued. It’s not your average one hour of counselling and good-luck-with-that-see-you-next-week. It was love and kindness like I had never known.”
